Research and Evaluation
Research: FACET Innovations (FI) conducts ongoing research on student understandings in science and applied research around teachers' understanding and skills related to eliciting and acting upon those understandings (i.e. formative assessment). More recently, we have also explored teachers' understandings of assessment and the impact of professional development experiences on their professional practice. The FI staff has expertise in research design, statistical techniques and qualitative analysis.
Program Evaluation: FI provides external evaluation services for several National Science Foundation-funded STEM education projects within Washington State and across the U.S. We envision our evaluator role as one of "critical friend," emphasizing the priority of formative information in our work. We employ a multiple methods approach, including surveys, interviews, document review, and observation techniques to provide both formative and summative feedback to clients.
